Eco-friendly equestrian living for the casual rider to the large breeding facility is an important contribution to a greener Earth. We're hoping to be a part of the solution, one horse at a time.
At Paddocks, our grass is always greener!
Paddocks started with my own search for an organic, whole grain feed for my horses. After feeding various combinations of pellets, grain and supplements over the years, I was unsatisfied with the quality and types of feed that my horses were getting. I presumed that if my dogs and cats were able to get high quality organic food, there must be a source for my horses. I was amazed that a truly organic horse feed was not only hard to find, but that the major feed retailers in my area did not have a dedicated source for such a product. After much searching, I came across Genesis Feed in Saskatchewan. It was the only organic feed mix that I was able to find that did not contain cooked pellets and provided balanced nutrition in a single feed product.
I was further surprised to learn that organic and Eco-friendly equestrian products were not easy to find in North America, even though this is a burgeoning industry in Europe and Pacifica. I could find products for my small animals, but there was still no reliable source of organic and natural horse products. Thus, I began a search for high quality, naturally made, North American products that I could use for my own horses. I realized that if I was having a difficult time finding products, other like-minded horse lovers were as well. Paddocks Equestrian was formed as a small business to help equestrian enthusiasts find Eco-friendly products for their needs, and to provide information on nutritional and green living options for horse lovers.
As a mother, animal enthusiast and earth scientist, I am keenly aware that our environment is worth protecting!
I have been a horse lover all of my life and have always tried to be involved with these majestic animals in one-way or another. Now that I am a horse owner, I have been working towards my Diploma in Equine Science from the University of Guelph to better understand the key aspects in equine health and stable management. My primary area of interest is equine nutrition and feed. I am also a student of 'natural horsemanship' as I strive to better understand and communicate with my horses to make a lasting partnership.
I hold a BSc. (Honours) Geology from the University of Manitoba, and a MSc. in Earth & Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Alberta. After working for almost 10 years as a petroleum geologist in Calgary, Alberta, my husband and I decided to make a lifestyle change. Thus, we gave up the big city rat race and moved out west to beautiful Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Now, I am a stay-at-home mom of three children. We share our lives and hearts with two equine partners, two faithful family dogs, and two independent cats that we live to serve.
